One thing I believe is, too often, not given the credit it deserves is the sacrifice a parent makes to ensure their child has the best chance at success in ballet. Sure, there have been countless hours we have put in to perfecting our technique and rehearsing for performances, but would we really have been as successful had we not received the ongoing support of our loving parents?
As I only recently entered into my second trimester of pregnancy, I am continually reminded about the wonderful gift of parenthood. I can say that for both Francis and I, we would not have had as much success in our lives and dancing careers if we didn’t have the ongoing support, sacrifice, and love of our parents.
Even now, I have already begun to willingly sacrifice my own desires for the well-being of our soon-to-be baby girl. While I was scheduled to perform with Miami City Ballet through the end of the month, I decided to bow out early due to the intense nature of the piece I was performing. Selfishly, I wish I could have performed up to the day I gave birth, but the health and safety of my child will always come first!
I want to encourage all the dancers out there to take a moment and really look back on the ones in their life that have sacrificed much to ensure our success. Reach out to your parents, or loved ones, and just share your appreciation for their commitment to you. As a future parent, I can only begin to imagine the sacrifices I am ready to make to guarantee our child has every opportunity to succeed in her life.
At Veyette Virtual Ballet School we understand the sacrifice dancers and parents are making every day. We are dedicated to supporting our parents through mentoring and nurturing our students towards reaching their ballet goals.
